Curiosity to Solve the Work/Life Balance Struggle

  • I cannot turn my brain off when I leave work.

  • My team texts/calls me at every hour of the day for problems they could solve.

  • My boss emails/texts/calls me on my day off or at night for questions I could answer tomorrow.

  • My family is upset that I am never present.

  • My friends are upset that I never want to do anything.

If you can relate to most of these thoughts, then read on. If not congratulations for having your shit together! Most of us deal with these conflicts on a fairly regular basis. Raising a family while juggling a demanding career is no joke. It is a constant evaluation of priorities. The tug and pull can be exhausting. Often we fall into prioritizing the parts that don't represent our core values.

So what is the answer? How do we keep everyone happy? In short. We can't. The only way to take control of our lives is to acknowledge that we don't have control over all of it. It is NOT easy. It is not quick. There are no tips or tricks to get to where we want to be overnight. What I can provide is a partner in creating your road map to the life you want to live.

The journey starts with getting curious.

  • What are your core values?

  • What do you want to prioritize?

  • How do I get there?

  • What is standing in my way?

Sit with the questions you come up with yourself. Allow yourself time to process. The first answer you come up with is not the real problem. You must dig in. Ask yourself why 5 times. Then you can uncover the real heart of the problem you are trying to solve.

We tend to dance around the problem. Blame others and our job. If I could just...fill in the blank. It's time to get our of your head and come up with a real solution. Stop letting everyone else prioritize your day. Learning how to set your own healthy boundaries and communicate them with the people in your life is key to creating the balance you crave.
